BARANGAY PROFILE

The Barangay Balud Lilo-an

Overview

Barangay Balud I, situated in eastern Zarraga, Iloilo, occupies a flat, agricultural portion with a 1.80 square-kilometer territory, heavily influenced by the adjacent Jalaur River. The recent 2025 population survey records Balud I having a total population of 1,222 residents composed of 614 males and 608 females with 309 households and 339 Families.

The community features clear boundaries that connect it to surrounding economic and geographic zones. It is bounded to the east by the Jalaur River, which naturally separates Zarraga from the municipality of Dumangas. Its western and southern borders meet its twin administrative area, Barangay Balud II, alongside the agricultural stretches of Jalaud Norte, while its northern boundaries transition into Jalaud Sur. This strategic positioning places Balud I at a vital intersection of agricultural and river-based livelihoods, directly shaping the community's socioeconomic profile and family migration patterns.

In terms of connectivity, the barangay links directly to the main transit highways of Central Panay via local municipal roads. Commuters rely on tricycles and jeepneys for public transport, maintaining an efficient 20 to 30-minute travel time to Iloilo City, located roughly 16 kilometers away. This reliable transport infrastructure guarantees residents immediate access to central municipal markets and healthcare facilities. Crucially for population management, this connectivity allows local youth to easily access town-center programs, including Provincial Teen Centers, facilitating the seamless delivery of adolescent health and reproductive wellness initiatives.
